Implementing tablespace encryption in SQL

Before you can start using the wallet, you need to open it.

Replace <password> with the password set in step 1.

3. Create an encrypted tablespace

To create an encrypted tablespace, use the ENCRYPT option while creating or altering the tablespace.

-- Create an encrypted tablespace
SQL> CREATE TABLESPACE <tablespace_name> DATAFILE '<datafile_location>' SIZE <tablespace_size> ENCRYPTION USING 'AES256';

-- Example:
SQL> CREATE TABLESPACE sensitive_data DATAFILE '/u01/oradata/databases/sensitive_data.dbf' SIZE 1G ENCRYPTION USING 'AES256';

Replace <tablespace_name> with the desired name for the tablespace, <datafile_location> with the path and filename for the datafile, <tablespace_size> with the desired size for the tablespace, and 'AES256' with the desired encryption algorithm.

4. Move tables to the encrypted tablespace

To move existing tables to the newly created encrypted tablespace, use the ALTER TABLE ... MOVE command.

-- Move a table to the encrypted tablespace
SQL> ALTER TABLE <table_name> MOVE TABLESPACE <tablespace_name>;

-- Example:
SQL> ALTER TABLE sensitive_table MOVE TABLESPACE sensitive_data;

Replace <table_name> with the name of the table you want to move, and <tablespace_name> with the name of the encrypted tablespace created in step 3.
